I met Madison and Greg in Crested Butte for their engagement session earlier this year. We had SO much fun exploring one of my favorite places here in Colorado. And for their wedding, we went to another one of my favorite places (where I used to live)–the Olympic Peninsula in Washington! More specifically, they got married at Fern Acres in Forks. Which is perhaps one of the cutest small venues in Washington.
I stopped by Mocha Motion (Ryan’s favorite coffee shop) before heading over to Fern Acres in the late morning to meet Madison and Greg. They both were super excited and nervous and all of the feelings that come with your wedding day! These two decided they wanted to see each other when they walked down the aisle but still wanted to do a first prayer before the ceremony. So we found a spot tucked away in the trees where they were able to hold hands and pray without seeing each other. It was a really special and meaningful way for them to start their wedding day together.
After their prayer, we set everyone up for the ceremony tucked away in a magical forested area covered in ferns. It was really relaxed and intentional. Their friend officiated and he did an amazing job! They exchanged vows in front of their friends and family before Madison and Greg signed their marriage license and took family photos with everyone. Everyone headed over to the reception area to relax while we snuck away to take more photos in the beautiful forest on the property. It was such a nice place to explore for photos!
We headed back to the reception tent afterward to celebrate. There were some good competitive lawn games happening, amazing local catering and drinks, and it was a great way to start the celebration! There were a few sweet speeches given by my family and friends before they had their first dances. And then it was time to dance and drink the night away with everyone who made the trip out to this beautiful and magical place. After dancing for a few hours, we headed out to the cute bonfire at the edge of the forest where I took a few more photos and said my goodbyes! I absolutely loved spending the day celebrating Madison and Greg and also getting to meet them before their wedding in Crested Butte. We feel like old friends and I can’t wait to see them again!
- Madison and Greg went on a “mini-moon” adventure after their wedding. They had their guests give them their favorite road trip songs to put into a playlist so they could listen to it on their trip! They also used physical maps and planned their mini-moon as they went without any social media influence. I loved this idea!
- Venues are amazing even for micro weddings. There are smaller venues these days that accommodate 30-40 guests easily. It can be a lot more stress-free to have your own private space, even if you don’t have a ton of guests.
- Couples are always a lot more relaxed when they can see each other or at least spend some time alone together before they start their wedding day. There’s a lot of nerves and excitement! In my experience, couples feel a lot less anxious if they can take a moment alone with their partner to start the day.
